Australia’s Brendan Reeves heads into the final day of the WRC Academy Cup segment of the Neste Oils Rally Finland in a clear third place.
Reeves and co-driving sister Rhianon Smyth improved their pace throughout the day, including setting the second fastest time on the final stage of the afternoon.
On a day where overnight leader Alastair Fisher and fellow podium contender Victor Henriksson both crashed, Reeves kept it clean on the high-speed Finnish roads.
“A massive Day 2 in Finland,” said Reeves!
“In third place now looking forward to one more day of action.
It proved a long day for fellow Aussie Molly Taylor and not due to any of her doing. With the crashes in front of Taylor on the road, she had two stages cancelled, meaning that the Sydney-sider was given a derived time.
The afternoon was better with good stage times, but with long liaison sections and the delays in the morning, she along with new co-driver Seb Marshall admitted that finding a rhythm was difficult.
“A Long day but a good improvement for us and looking forward to building on that tomorrow,” said Taylor.
Heading into the final day, Taylor sits 12th.
Egon Kaur’s run of victories in the WRC Academy Cup could be over after Craig Breen completed the second day at the head of the young driver-training category.
However, with Kaur a mere 2.4-seconds behind the Pirelli Star Driver on Friday night, the battle for victory is far from over heading into Saturday’s closing stages.
